The Near-Earth Network Sustaining Engineering team is seeking an Electrical Engineer, Level III to perform analysis, design, development, test and integration of electrical systems for ground system applications including NASA's Launch Communications System for the upcoming Human Spaceflight Program. This position is at NASA Wallops Flight Facility on the Space Communications Network Services contract.

Duties & Responsibilities

The successful candidate’s duties include:

  • systems requirements development and allocation
  • performing or directing the analysis, design, fabrication, test and integration of electrical systems for ground system applications
  • interpreting system level requirements as they apply to the development of electrical systems and components, identifies design alternatives and performs trade-off studies, link budget, sensitivity, reliability, failure mode and worst-case analysis to determine the optimum approach for the design, and to predict performance of the system for the expected operational and environmental conditions
  • developing and executing test plans for electronics system verification and acceptance, and develops operations and maintenance documentation
  • designing or performing test sequences to measure and characterize the performance of electrical components and systems, and, subsequently, analyzes and interprets the test results and prepares summary reports
  • functioning as a lead engineer, manage the sustaining engineering team and provide technical direction for the definition and development of a system or subsystem and coordinate all appropriate engineering activities



  • Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering, physics, computer science, or mathematics is required.  
  • This position requires a minimum of 10 years of experience in the analysis, design and development of electrical and electronic systems including hands-on work in the test and integration of Ground Data Systems
  • Experience in RF and Telemetry is a plus
  • A Masters degree in engineering, physics or mathematics may substitute for 3 years of experience.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance
