  • Responsible to perform non-routine and complex mechanical assignments in support of the design, development, construction or evaluation of hardware relevant to the NASA Sounding Rocket Operations Contract III.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate welding machine
  • Weld together metal components of products as specified by layout, blueprints, diagram, work order, welding

   procedures, or oral instructions

  • Set up and operate TIG equipment (welding machine) to join parts as specified by blueprints, layouts, welding

   procedures, and operating chart

  • May be required to join via welds, brazes, and solders all major classes of metals and alloys utilized in

   research and development projects

  • Visually examines welded joints for adherence to specifications
  • Joining, surfacing, or otherwise fabricating or repairing structures or parts of metal or other materials
  • Applies the following welding or cutting processes: arc; gas; resistance; solid state (friction, ultrasonic, cold,

   explosion, diffusion); and other processes, such as electro slag, electron beam, induction, thermal, and laser

   beam. If required, removes surplus slag, flux, and spatter using brush, portable grinder, and hand scraper

  • May operate other machine shop equipment to prepare components for welding
  • May be required to drive a Government vehicle containing field welding and burning outfits
  • Perform one-of-a-kind tasks requiring a thorough background in metal precision joining
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or required

Qualifications

  • ASME Section 9 Welder Performance Qualification or equivalent
  • Thorough background in precision fusion of metals
  • Ability to weld, braze, and solder all major classes of metals and alloys used in research and development

   projects

  • Ability to use basic hand tools and perform basic layout from both verbal instructions and blueprints
  • Valid driver’s license

High School Diploma or GED credential with Trade school or military training
