    LJT & Associates has immediate opening for an Operation/Maintenance Technician at the Naval Satellite Operations Center (NAVSOC) Detachment ALFA located at Prospect Harbor, Maine.  NAVSOC DET ALFA is responsible for operating, managing and maintaining communications satellite ground systems that provide reliable satellite service to the users worldwide.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    The Operations/Maintenance Technicians at NAVSOC DET ALFA work under the direct supervision of the Assistant Program Manager (APM) in the performance of their duties.  The Operations/Maintenance Technicians will perform operations and maintenance functions to ensure DET ALFA’s readiness to support the NAVSOC and Polar Broadcast missions. Collateral duties will be assigned by the APM to comply with NAVSOC and Naval Support Activity Prospect Harbor, security, safety and emergency action policies. Specific functions include:


    • Assist the Satellite Operators at NAVSOC HQ (Naval Satellite Operations Command Point Mugu California) and NAVSOC DET D (Naval Satellite Operations Command Detachment Delta) by:
      •  Monitoring active satellite supports for Level 1 alarms.
      • Configuring the EHF Ground Terminal for EHF supports.
      • Troubleshooting leased line problems.
      • Troubleshooting Ground Systems problems.
      • Performing crypto operations as required.


    • Assist the BCA (Broadcast Controlling Authority) in monitoring the Polar Broadcast Mission by:
      • Monitoring broadcast, voice and TTY circuits for proper operations.
      • Configuring EHF Polar Broadcast terminal as required.
      • Troubleshooting leased line problems.
      • Troubleshooting Ground Systems problems.
      • Performing crypto operations as required.


    • Assist the Assistant Program Manager by:
      • Assisting in the development and maintenance of a Preventative Maintenance System to ensure the Ground Systems remain in an operational and ready state.
      • Performing preventive and corrective maintenance on all ground station equipment.
      • Performing system level troubleshooting on all ground station equipment, and restoring failed systems to operational condition. Restoration activities include equipment reboots, restarts, box level replacement, and circuit-card replacement.
      • Generate technical documents for new systems.
      • Coordinate with higher-level authority in trouble-shooting critical systems.
      • Provide technical assistance to the Information Assurance Officer (IAO) and Information Technology Specialists (IT) as required.
      • Qualify as COMSEC users and assist with EKMS activities.
      • Qualify on DETA Personnel Qualification Standard (PQS) for both NAVSOC and Polar Broadcast Missions.
      • Perform physical security functions as outlined by the APM.
      • Be familiar with and practice Navy Safety procedures.
      • Be familiar with and practice Navy Hazardous Material procedures.
      • Perform administrative functions (message and record keeping).
      • Perform other associated tasks as directed by the Assistant Program Manager.



    Education/Experience Requirements

    • Must have at least a High School Diploma.
    • Military or specialized training in a technical field, preferably Satellite Communications.
    • Experience in the repair and restoration of electronic communications systems.
