Overview

Performs specialized duties at the Visitor Center at NASA's Wallops Flight Facility to support informal STEM education and outreach programs. This position is highly knowledgeable and familiar with NASA missions and best practices in interpretation in a museum setting. The position develops and supports all informal education and outreach initiatives of the Visitor Center.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as the public programming lead which includes the research, development and implementation of programs for youth and adults
  • Assist the Informal Education Specialist with planning and implementing educational and interpretive programs, including school and scout programs, outreach, family and youth programs, as well as adult enrichment
  • Work with staff to develop and organize activities for NASA Center-unique events
  • Assists the Manager with all aspects of museum operations including exhibit maintenance and exhibit enhancements
  • Assist with group tours of the Wallop Flight Facility Main and Island Base
  • Assist with visitor services
  • Assist with public launch viewing events
  • Experience conceptualizing, leading, and curating all types of learning and educational engagement within a museum setting
  • Knowledge of informal education techniques including current trends in museum education as well as an understanding of museum audiences
  • Possess strong presentation and teaching skills, with great attention to detail
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal skills required
  • Strong organization, evaluation and analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with diverse team members and NASA community
  • Must have proven ability to work effectively and efficiently
  • Must possess excellent computer skills including webpage management

Qualifications

  • This position requires a Bachelor's degree in science education, museum studies, education, journalism or related discipline with a minimum of 2 years of related work experience
  • This position requires weekend work, and occasional evening and holiday work
