    Duties & Responsibilities

    Support sustaining engineering and maintenance activities on range instrumentation systems. Perform lifecycle management engineering (design, upgrade, performance monitoring, repair, and disposal) of range instrumentation systems, with focus on computer-based systems (video distribution, meteorological, data processing, and display systems). Will be directly responsible for engineering oversight of meteorological data systems and will provide software engineering support to other engineers in the Asset Management Office.


    Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

    • Perform software maintenance activities, including arranging vendor maintenance agreements for COTS products, corrective maintenance of operational custom software systems, modifications to existing operational custom software systems, supporting test and integration of new or modified software, installation of software products and patches, documenting software changes and problems, maintenance of operational parameter databases, and control of software system configurations

    • Provide for the implementation, integration, test, and transfer into operations of hardware and software systems for network services, missions and projects

    • Provide ongoing development of selected data services components and systems, and support current and future missions

    • Provide sustaining engineering for system hardware, software, and firmware

    • Modify, test, and replace components as necessary to ensure operability and maintainability while meeting or exceeding all system performance specification requirements

    • Identify and implement changes to the systems that will result in operations or maintenance cost savings

    • Analyze customer requirements and translate them into a design

    • Create prototypes

    • Perform internal testing of software products

    • Respond to and resolve software discrepancies against documented requirements

    • Generate program design language and code based on department standards

    • Determine software maintainability and overall adherence to user requirements on department standards

    • Generate/update documents defining software product baselines

    • May be required to obtain NASA’s System Administration certificate




    • BS degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Math or other related field plus 0-2 years of related experience

    • Masters Degree in engineering or science may substituted for 2 years’ experience

    • AA/AS degree may be substituted for 2 years’ experience

    • In lieu of formal education, 8 years of related experience may be substituted
