    Duties & Responsibilities

    Laboratory manager will manage the technical operations of an analytical laboratory at NASA's Wallops Flight Facility conducting Virginia Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program and American Industrial Hygiene Association Laboratory Accreditation Program accredited analysis as well as non - accredited analysis on drinking water, wastewater, fuels, lubricants, oils, breathing air or oxygen, and liquid or gas commodities.  In addition to managing the technical operations, the manager will be required to perform analytical testing including occasional weekend work, collect samples, and complete written plans and reports to comply with drinking, wastewater, and storm water permits and commodity standards.

    Qualifications

    Education requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in the chemical, environmental, biological sciences, physical sciences or engineering
    • Twenty-four (24) college semester credit hours in chemistry
    • Four (4) college semester credit hours (16 hours preferred)  in general microbiology and biology

    Experience requirements:

    • Two (2) years of experience in the environmental analysis of inorganic and organic analytes
    • Two (2) years of experience in microbiological analysis which included fecal coliform, total coliform, E. coli, and standard plate count
    • One year of experience operating Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry, Inductively Coupled Plasma – Optical Emission Spectroscopy, and Fourier-transform Infrared Spectroscopy equipment
    • Six (6) years progressive laboratory experience
