    Duties & Responsibilities

    • The Maintenance Technicians work under the direct supervision of the Lead Maintenance Technician, in the performance of their duties.  All Technicians must be able to perform the significant maintenance functions specified to the NAVSOC Mission.
    • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on NAVSOC up-link/down-link equipment, antenna systems, data communications systems, and other electronics hardware using a Preventative Maintenance System that complies with OPNAV 4790.4 standards to ensure the NAVSOC Ground Systems remain in an operational and ready state.
    • Assist the LJT detachment personnel in problem isolation and repair of remote NAVSOC ground equipment.
    • Be able to perform system level troubleshooting on ground station equipment and possess the ability to read and interpret from system schematic drawings and diagrams.
    • Technician must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and also be able to climb on antenna structures up to 90 feet or more. Also be able to operate a 90 foot man lift to maintain the Laguna Peak 60 foot antenna. All fall protection, man lift operation, lock out tag out training, is to be provided by the U.S. NAVY.
    • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license In order to maintain the remote antenna.
    • Participate in the Configuration Management System and assist in maintaining the NAVSOC Technical Library.
    • Generate technical documents and drawings utilizing Visio for existing and new systems and to keep such references up to date.
    • Find innovative ways to improve technical capabilities.
    • Coordinate with higher-level authority in troubleshooting critical systems.
    • Cross-train, work closely with and support watch personnel in performance of their duties.
    • Provide technical assistance to the Information Assurance Officer (IAO) and Information Technology Specialists (IT) as required.
    • Organizational Maintenance - Ability to replace failed modules or equipment with ready spares, to correct simple leased line outages, and respond to failures that require basic system troubleshooting and resets.
    • Intermediate Maintenance - Provide technical knowledge required for failure analysis at the system level, provide in-depth problem diagnosis, ability to repair failed equipment and/or components, troubleshoot persistent leased-line and communication problems.

    Qualifications

    • Provide support for ground system components (e.g., SGLS & EHF antennae, uplink/downlink RF components, receivers, high-power amplifiers, antenna control units, crypto-logic devices, front-end processing devices (RT-Logic), communications/circuit equipment, GPS receiver/antenna, timing distribution); standalone systems supporting communications equipment; test equipment and calibration; and special purpose equipment. Equipment is maintained and operated in both classified and unclassified environments. Currently NAVSOC is operating eleven (11) RT Logic legacy strings, six (6) MUOS S-band strings, and (10) MUOS Ka-band strings; nineteen (19) communication circuits; and twelve (12) IST phones.
    • Qualify as COMSEC users.
    • Be familiar with and practice Navy Safety practices and procedures.
    • Be familiar with and practice Navy Hazardous Material procedures.
    • A.S. degree in Electronics Technology or equivalent military/trade school training and necessary experience.
    • Must possess a valid driver's license to travel for maintenance of remote antenna
    • Minimum 4 year's experience in the electronic repair field.
    • Security Clearance - This position requires a current Secret Security Clearance.

     

    Additional Notes: 

    • This is a union position. Salary and Benefits are pre-negotiated and called out in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
    • Selected Candidate will be hired as a Maintenance Technician (I) and after completing necessary qualifications/certifications will be promoted to the Maintenance (II) position per CBA guidelines.
